Some photographs taken from trip to Mexico city, March 29-30 2003

Part 1: Photos taken from a walk in Mexico City, near our hotel (located in Zona Rosa)

We had our breakfast in a place called “Sanborns”. The food is good, and the restaurants are often in nice buildings.

This is a photo of the base of the “Angel de Indepedencia” statue. It is full of panels against the war in Iraq.

We passed by a furniture store, and decided to take a picture.

This is a park near by the hotel. This is a replica of a Roman Diana Huntress (or, Demetra, for the Greeks) statue.

And Luz next to another statue. It is a replica of Aphroditi of Milos (with silicone implants).

Part 2: Photos taken during the wedding.

The wedding took place at the bride's home (Xomalin), which is very beautiful and traditional. A traditional Mexican fiesta followed the event. There were lots of people people present, and a distinguished crowd it was: people from Germany, Switzerland, Canada, US, Mexico, Argentina (just to name a few). This is to some degree expected, since Xomalin has both Mexican (father) and Swiss (mother) roots - add all the people both Fidel and Xomi met in grad school, and, viola! A multicultural, multinational crowd came to celebrate this wonderful event! Our link to the couple was through Fidel, whom we met at Caltech. Xomalin was also doing her PhD in experimental physics in UC-Santa Barbara at the time.

A view of the front porch, from the side of the garden. You can see the table where the wedding took place.

And here is me!

And… me again.

And Luz.

Here is the bride, her father, and a cousin.

Here is the bride and groom exchanging vows!

And the bride signing the marriage licence.

... and the groom signing the marriage licence...

Now sneaking a kiss when noone is watching (... or that's what they think!!!)

OK, let go celebrate now!

Isn't Luz lovely?

Me and Fidel (both happy from the eveny and from our friend Jose Cuervo)

Fidel and Luz now...

At around 3 am, we all decide to go inside (after most people, including the Mariachi singers, left) and continue to have some fun.
