A trip to Savannah, GA from April 19-20, 2003

Luz’s sister, Christy, had visited us from Mexico during that time. It was a really fun trip. Hope to do it again sometime soon!!! All family and friends are invited to join us!

Savannah is located on the East coast, right south to the border with South Carolina. It is a very beautiful and historical city (was one of the very few places in Georgia to survive the civil war intact). We started off from home (point 1 on the map) and drove for 4 and a half hours to the southeast. Here is the route we took:

We arrived late at night, so no pictures were taken. The next day, we woke up early (well, at least for Thano’s standards) and bought breakfast and ate at a nice park somewhere in the city. Can you tell that Luz and Christy are sisters? (at least, judging from their clothes):

The flora is very dense. Everywhere throughout the city you find old and tall trees

The city is right by the Savannah river, and when you cross it, you pass into South Carolina. Here is the bridge:

Crossing the bridge. The sky was awesome that day. Lots of cumulus clouds.

Because there is a lot of humidity during the summer, the trees are full of Spanish Moss, that give them a slight swampy look

On the other side of the city is the Atlantic Ocean. We had to go to the beach! (it had been a long time since the last visit to a beach. What a wonderful feeling!). Here is Christy and Luz:

Thanos and Luz:

We found a living statue:

And a lighthouse:

We even found a pier

With interesting sand sculptures (look in the middle of the picture!!!)

Thanos and his Blues Brothers sunglasses

At the end of the pier, we found the typical fishing going on…

We ate at this restaurant that had boats converted into tables…

and Thanos met with an old friend (he was a stiffy ole chap, ay).

At some point, it became a bit cold, so it was time to go…

Back to the city. This is the entrance to a very old cemetery. Lots of graves from the Independence and Civil wars.

Of course, traditional methods of transportation are still available in Savannah.

A bridge close to the docks by the Savannah river. The lower level takes you to the river; the upper level corresponds to the city level. The buildings in the background “hide” the docking areas so that everything is pretty. Now of course, the riverside area is full of bars and restaurants.

In the upper level of the old Cotton Exchange.

And here is the Savannah river!

On the riverside

And a few old riverboats.

Well, that was the end of the trip! It is now time to go back home L. Oh well. Look how nice the car looks :)

That’s all folks!
